Next week I’ll be in Cambodia and I have no idea what to expect, but I’ll probably see all kind of different food out there. Probably nothing like this. For sure, not with English neon signs in the small window. Maybe I’m wrong and they have plenty of Beijing Ducks hanging around different restaurants, like some kind of hanged mummies. With plenty of neon signs, not just in Khmer but Chinese and English as well. Can’t wait to find out.

Saw (and ate) these in Beijing, lovely. Was in Cambodia earlier this summer, fantastic place, really enjoyed it. Food was often a bit too westernised for my liking, so followed the age old maxim of “eat where the locals eat.” Wasn’t disappointed, although one evening, sat in a cheap bar in a dingy back street near the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh a young girl came in selling little tit bits, including whole fried frogs. My girlfriend, being French, was delighted. I ate them to be polite, and to be fair they weren’t that bad. The fish amok that I ate in the same neighbourhood was amongst the top 5 things I’ve eaten anywhere in the world.

Have a great trip. Pack light. If you are traveling by bus, expect extremely bumpy roads and buses that are OK but a bit uncomfortable. We each took one small suitcase and since we were staying for three or more days in each location we washed our clothes in the bathroom sink and hung them to dry in the room. Our total time in Cambodia was about 3 weeks.

Have fun in Cambodia! I went last year and can tell you that you should expect to see signs in both Khmer and English… even the neon ones. Can’t wait to see photos from your trip!
