Summer Activities

Total Visits in June

I have seen a steady increase of visits to my site over the last 6 month. Till June. In June the total number of visitors dropped to half of what it was in May. I’m not really sure why there was such a dramatic change. Could be couple reasons that I can think of, first is related to the beginning of summer and most people getting away from computers, second is that WordPress modified how they count visitors to our blogs. I think in the past if the same person visited multiple pages on the blog, each of them counted as new visit. I suspect that they do not do that anymore and count only one visit from each person, no matter how many pages they look at. I might be wrong but this is the only logical explanation to such a huge drop in counted visitors.

Winston-Salem Baseball Stadium

Growing up in different part of the world I never played or seen baseball game till I came to US. While being here for almost 20 years I still barely know the rules and managed to see only 3-4 live games. Not my game at all. A few weeks back we finally decided to go check out new stadium in Winston-Salem NC, see the game and take some photos. My primary goal was to take fireworks photos, only to learn that they do them only on Fridays, and this was a Saturday game. We still had a good time, drank some good draft IPA and I took a few photos, this is one of them. Our home team won by big margin. I attributed it to my presence…they put it out for a first time visitor, making sure I come back on some future Friday and catch fireworks.

  1. Comment on Stats. I am not putting too much weaight behind WordPress stats as they seem to have too many anomalies in the counts and reports. So I am just enjoying the hits I get on a daily basis and fun from the copmments

  2. WordPress changed the way people find blogs now. It’s much more difficult to find the topics we are looking for. Also, they changed it so that followers don’t even have to click on the blog to read it (unless you set it up that way). As a follower of many blogs, all I have to do is read them in my email now, without going to the blog itself. Another change is that people can read half the blog on the reader tab. They can just click ‘like’ there and not even go to the blog.

As far as I know, each page that is clicked is still counted as a view, but those other changes I mentioned are making a huge difference. I’m pretty new to the blogging world, and I was just starting to get a good amount of clicks when they changed it. Now I’m getting half of what I had finally built up to. Very disappointing.

  3. Interesting observation, I’m experiencing the same and I thought I just got really bad and people don’t like to visit anymore! I blamed myself 🙂

    1. Your photos are great and even better. It has something to do with how they do count now, at least that is what I think.

  4. Me too — experiencing a decrease. I thought it was my post about nicotine deprivation that frightened everyone away from the “crazy lady!” –Zee

  5. My visits are constantly pretty low – oh well! I only started in January and have no idea how long it takes to get noticed or build up a following – or maybe I’m just a bit dull! 🙂
I’ve been having trouble with WP for the last couple of weeks with Reader, among other things, not working. Also, although I follow your blog you’re not listed in the ‘blogs I follow’ bit so finding you has become tricky – particularly as I’m no WP expert. Still, I’ve found you again now – I just need to remember how I did it!

  6. I don’t get the number of visitors to my photography site that you get to your’s, so what I see on my stats is probably not as representative as what you see on yours. All I know is that I actually had an increase of visitors to my site in June.

  7. I noticed a significant drop in visits right around the time WP rolled out the Reader. Now, I sometimes have more likes than I do visits!?! Also at that time, I noticed that I could no longer access the global tags pages unless I log out of my WP account. I know people used to visit through global tags, but not so much anymore. Great photo, BTW!

  8. Love the pic of the Ball Park… Baseball is one of my favorite sports to watch… I love the sights, sounds and smells at the ball park… I hope you enjoyed yourself…
